97% or 100% of anything over a 20-year period seems like overwhelming data.
But for something as serious as heat-related deaths, I hope this makes people sit up and take notice.
Big guys + hard work (+ hot environments, likely) = extremely dangerous conditions
To tackle something this serious takes a multivariate approach, but hope that teams/coaches/athletic trainers consider what else they can do (besides getting the most out of what they've already done) to try to reduce this number.
Studies have consistently shown that heat dumping can help control the rise of core body temperature.
Beyond other solutions, consider:
1. keeping hands exposed as often as possible (no tape or gloves)-- they are one of the most important radiators of internal heat available on the body
2. use heat dumping devices during normal rest breaks throughout practice to keep core temperature from continually rising
