Think of your core body temperature-- from baseline to overheated-- as a spectrum, with different consequences/symptoms (like cramping, nausea, and dizziness) showing up along the way.
You perform at your best and have the most energy available to your muscles when you are closest to your baseline core temperature.
The goal, as an athlete, is to stay as close to that sweet spot as possible for the whole time you are playing. Which is difficult, since the very nature of playing/working out in hot and humid conditions will always push your body towards higher temperatures.
One way to address this while you are playing is heat dumping, which is a simple and effective method to help you keep your core body temperature in check, stay in your sweet spot, and ensure you can play better for longer.
