Think of body temperature like hydration

When prepping for hot conditions, most sports teams feel like they've checked the box if they have a cold immersion tub for their athletes to use when they overheat.
Let's flip that kind of thinking.
Take hydration. Teams don't have IV bags everywhere, waiting for athletes to get dehydrated and keel over, and treat them once that happens. We preach being hydrated before activity, then take regular water breaks throughout the practice/conditioning/game to STAY hydrated as best as possible.
Body temperature should be treated the same way. Cool yourself before activity on a hot day (if your baseline temperature is elevated by the conditions), then take regular cooling breaks throughout the practice/conditioning/game to STAY close to baseline temperature as best as possible.
Or better yet, combine them: during breaks, one hand holds a water bottle, and the other hand is heat dumping.
There's a place for IV bags and cold immersion tubs-- let's just resort to using them as our safety net, not as our primary line of defense.
